FMUN
SHANGHAI
OUR TEAM
JOY JIAHUI SHANG
Secretary General
From China and the United States
Dear delegates, It is my honour to serve as the Secretary General in the FMUN Admin Team this year.
I’ve been to five conferences since 9th grade, three times as a delegate and twice as a chair. Playing the role of a leader in the team gives me uncountable opportunities to show my leadership, planning, organizing, and communication skills.
Social Awareness and Global Citizenship are my main takeaways from the past two years. With a heart to contribute, we welcome you to start the next journey with us!

Tips for new delegates:
Words have incredible power. Use this power carefully in committees and make changes. We want to hear YOUR voice.
Remember, Micro action, Macro impact.

RIKI GUAN
Director General
From Singapore
Greeting all delegates. It is my honour to once again be in charge of FMUN, and this year, I will be assisting the FMUN team as the Director-General.
I have attended HMUN 2019, all FMUN, and SHASMUN. I have witnessed the growth of FMUN, starting as a committee of 20 delegates and stretching out to how it is today. It has been my pleasure to be side by side with FMUN, and of course, I wish you to find a great time here.
OTTO BASCO
Under Secretary of Operations
From the United States
I have attended FMUN twice before, was titled the best delegate at my first conference, and was a chair in my second. I have also attended other MUN conferences like the 2019 SHASUM at Shanghai American School. I hope to attend many other conferences in the future and strive to become a well-rounded and selfless global citizen.
For all new delegates, I suggest you thoroughly research your country and topic, as well as any other related pieces of information to make your debate as fruitful, interesting and efficient as possible.

JAKE GUAN
Under Secretary General of Administrations
From Singapore
Delegates, chairs, directors. It is a pleasure to serve as the Under-secretary General of Operations for FMUN V.
I have started MUN in my 6th grade, and have been to more than 5 conferences. MUN is still rather new to me and I look forward to more opportunities. Tip for new delegates: You will do just fine, just try your best to speak, and ask questions.
MASAHIRO SEN
Chief of Management and Finance
From Japan
I have participated in MUN since grade 10, and I have participated in MUN twice in total. In MUN, I like to dig out and analyze the root causes of issues and put forward my own opinions and solutions based on this (and I believe I'm a person like that in daily life). In FMUN core team, I will devote myself to financial management, technical work and some proofreading.

Tips for new delegates: Discussing and summarizing your ideas/solutions earlier than the conference or in the position paper will be really useful to perform yourself! You can hold the topic in the conference in your hands, and once the content is related to what you prepared on the position paper, you can put forward your idea with your logic PERFECTLY!
easter egg hehe.

ANDREW PAN
Former Secretary General
From Taiwan and United States
I started attending MUN conferences when I was in 9th grade, and have been part of the FMUN Admin team since FMUNI. The reason why I like MUN is that it gives me a taste of politics and international relations in the real world, as that is the direction I want to move toward for my future.
Tip for new delegates:
Always remember that even the masters were once beginners. Sometimes failures are the stepping stones that will lift you higher in the long run. So don't get discouraged if you fail once, twice, thrice, even twenty times. Just make sure every time you fall, you come back stronger and better than before. Never lose hope, never lose faith.
SOFIYA-HALYNA TRYZUB COOK
Former Secretary General
From Ukraine and England
I joined MUN in 7th grade, and have been doing it ever since. For me MUN is a source of knowledge, it's where you learn to accept different views and sides, where the ultimate goal is to make the world a better place. In my spare time, I enjoy wandering around art museums and playing football.
Tip for new delegates- "Don't wait for opportunities. Create them."

KARINE AUVE
Former Director General
From France and Hong Kong
For the past four years that I have been participating in MUN conferences, such event has never failed to intrigue me with the thrill of invigorating debates, passionate speeches and challenging POIs. The skills of spontaneous debate and political knowledge that MUN has equipped me with are more rewarding than I would've ever imagined; afterall, i began as a freshmen whose fingers shook while reading her speech at HMUN with a country she can't even pinpoint on the map. Thus, my advice to new delegates would be to simply perservere in MUN, since struggling and embarrassing speeches has happened to everyone! Don't let that hinder your passion and pursuits, because you will improve and certainly one day make an eloquent speech!
Meanwhile, I am a huge bookaholic, a fan of mystery films, dogs and a humble procrastinator :)
I hope to see you all at the upcoming FMUN.
MADDALENA SPADONE
Former Under Secretary of Operations
From Italy and China
I began my MUN journey as a debater in middle school. MUN for me is not just a platform to enrich my knowledge towards international issues, but also where I meet people of mutual interests. In the meantime, I am also a big fan of Japanese anime (though IB forbids me).
Tip for new delegates- A thorough research before the conference is vital! During the conference, don't be afraid to speak out. It's always tough on the first try but don't let that stop you. There is so much more to explore.

TOMOYA ICHIKAWA
Former Chief Finance Officer
From Japan
As a Japanese who grew up in China, I've witnessed how politics and diplomacies can destroy years of peaceful relationships and tear two people or countries apart. I attended my first MUN conference in tenth grade and started being an active participant at different conferences since my junior year. Apart from MUN, I enjoy reading, learning of planes and photography.
Tips for new delegates: Don't be shy. Failures are the mother of success, and it's even more so in MUN. Without making mistakes, you'll never learn, and to learn you need to take courage to step up. I hope to see more and more young students participating in MUN and getting interested in politics.
SHARON BYUN
Former Committee Organizer
From South Korea
I joined the MUN in 10th grade. It's a bit late compare to other students but I went to a lot of conferences in a short time. So don't hesitate to join this wonderful activity because you think you're late. At first I joined MUN because I wanted to know more about the world but as I go through several conferences, I gained not only knowledge but also skills and experiences. MUN gives you confidence and bigger world. I strongly recommend you to try this because once you try, you cannot quit!
Tips for new delegates:
Don't be afraid of making speeches. The quality of a conference do not come from experienced delegates but willingness to speak out your opinion. Even if it is only few sentences, it helps other delegates to know what you think about the topic. Remember, good resolution paper comes from variety of opinion.

CATHERINE CAO
Former Delegate Affairs
From Canada and Hong Kong
An avid sleeper and a llama enthusiast, I enjoy eating fruits and binge-watching television shows. MUN has interested me because of its goal of promoting and training delegates to speak for their own interests through diplomatic bargaining. This is my first year actively participating in MUN; hence I still have a lot to learn.
Tip for new delegates – Participating in MUN is a great opportunity to explore new interests! There’s a first for everything, so it’s greatly encouraged to speak up and try your best even if you’re unfamiliar with the topic!
ALEX HE
Former Graphic Designer
From the United States
I joined MUN in 10th grade, and I'm still very new to delegating. I joined because of my interest in global issues, particularly the prevention of environmental harm (pollution, deforestation, loss of biodiversity, etc). I enjoy graphic design, it's a serious hobby. I design posters and logos, and even this website. One day, I hope I reach a level of delegating that's the same as my level of design.

Tips: Make sure you get enough sleep before the conference!
easter egg hehe.
